Chapter 6

We continued our way to Mr. Robert's office

The weather was a bit cold and I didn't wear proper clothes

Jimmy: are you cold?

Emily: no I'm fine

Jimmy: are you sure?

I smiled : yes thank you

Jimmy turned his head

I was nervous and I tried to watch my words carefully so I won't say anything suspicious

We didn't talk a lot, in fact we didn't talk at all

Until we arrived

Jimmy: here it is!

It wasn't a company, it was a small building with apartments

Emily: is that his company?

Jimmy while entering: he has an office not a company

I followed him

Jimmy: I hope you're okay with stairs, they don’t have elevators

Emily: huh seriously?

Jimmy smiled half a smile: not all of us live a royal life don’t we?

Emily: what do u mean by that?

Jimmy started walking up stairs

I followed him, the office was on the 12th floor

Emily: fine I'm doing my best!

I was way too tired to continue so I sat

Emily: no I'm not, I'm starting to think that giants live here!

Jimmy: haha funny! Now come on I told you we don’t have all day

Emily: I won't walk those stairs, go by your self

Jimmy: fine! Wait for me here

He left

I sat there with my mobile, Hanna sent me a text

" I don’t think I'll m make it, mum gave me some work to do!! :( "

I heard some noise coming from one of the rooms

I stood up and followed the voice until I was in front of a weird door

It didn’t look like any of the other doors

It was black and huge, it was made of iron while the others were made of wood

It sounded like a man screaming

I couldn’t hear what was he saying so I entered the room

There was another door, but this time it was small

It was a bit open so I stood there to hear

Man 1: it's a bit complicated but we must!

Man 2: that place is full of security

Man 1: so what? It's not like this is our first time isn’t it?

Man 2: well yea but..

Man 1: no buts! That place collects a lot of money, and I'm not wasting that, we'll pretend to be like any other visitors

Man 2: as you like!

Ma 1 laughed

I was so curious so I looked through the door

I saw two men sitting in front of a TV, one of them had a long red hair, and the other one was bald and fat!

They had a logo on their jackets, it looked like a moon and a sun connected with a thunder in the middle, creepy hah?

One of them was about to stand up so I ran out of the room

I went back to the stairs

Jimmy: where were you? Haven't I told you to stay in your place?

Emily: and who do you think you are mister?

Jimmy: you're starting to tease me, let's go back!

I ignored him and walked down

All what was going on my mind is the crime I heard about.

I mean I love criminal movies, and as a child I always wanted to be a cop, it's weird since every little girl wanted to be a princess! Well guess I'm really different!

I finished around 8 so I went home

It's been a while since I went to the bookstore, working really took a lot of my time.

I decided to go there and see how it is

Nothing really changed, I guess!

I had a friend who worked there, Abby!

I met her while I was visiting the bookstore daily!

She lives with her grandma, her parents died because of a car accident when she was 5! So her grandma took her here to New York to build a new life away from those bad memories, her mum gave birth to her baby brother Max one month before the accident.

Emily: hey!

Abby: oh hey Emily! Where have you been? It's been a while since I last saw you?

Emily: yes! And I'm truly sorry for that! I had to work for one of my dad's friends, it starts from 4 till 7 and I barely have time for my own!

Abby: look at the bright side at least, you have something useful to do other than hanging out with those freaks!

Emily: when are you finishing?

Abby looked at her watch: half an hour

Emily: great! Let's go this restaurant near my house I heard the serves the best pastas ever!!

Abby: Emily! You know I hate restaurants!

I started begging: pleaaaaaaase? Pretty please? Come on I'm begging!!!

Abby: NO!!

Emily: come on! Aren’t you the one who told me I gotta spend more time with people who know the real me

She kept silent, well that’s a good mark? that she's kinda convinced right?

Emily: for me? We'll have a great time I promise!

Abby: I'll bring my jacket.

Emily: YES! " I went and hugged her " thank you thank you thank you!!

Abby laughed

I took my bag

Emily: come on we don’t wanna be late!

Abby: you say come on a lot by the way

Emily: I say a lot of things a lot

Abby: huh?

Emily: exactly!!

We started walking to the restaurant, I text mum and told her I won't be there for dinner

When we arrived

Emily: seats for two please!

The waiter: this way mam

What I liked about this restaurant is that it was a country style, it's like you're actually in a village or a farm!! To me I preferred this more than other fancy restaurants where you think you're actually having a tea with the queen of England!

Abby: it's not that bad.

Emily: I told you you'll like it

Abby: I didn’t say I liked it!

Emily: your eyes says it all my dear

Abby laughed

The waiter: are you ready to order mam?

Emily: yes please, I'd like to have a fotochini and one coke, what about you Abby?

Abby: ammm I'll have a spaghetti and one seven up please

The waiter: okay then, your order will be delivered in 20 minutes!

Emily: thank you!

The waiter: your welcome mam

Abby: I miss living in Texas

Emily: how was it?

Abby: I can hardly remember, I was only 5 years old when we left, but I remember my dad when he used to take me for horse rides and fishing at the lake nearby. We would just sit on that boat foe as long as w could and sing and dance and all the stuff we can

A tear fell from her eye, I guess there are people who're more miserable than us anyway

Emily: I'm sorry about that

She faked a smile: it's okay

I tried to change her mood a little

Emily: so? What's new

Abby: nothing but the usual, you?

Emily: I'm scared!

Abby: why? What's wrong?

I told her about my job, and about jimmy

Abby: you know what really freaks me out?

Emily: what?

Abby : is that you can be 2 people at the same time, without anyone noticing!

Emily: that shows you that people can change the way they look and be something fake!

Abby: you know what? I really like the original you.

Emily: yea me too

Our order came and we started eating

Abby: Emily!

Emily: yea?

Abby: why are you doing it?

Emily: doing what?

Abby: the whole 2 personality thing

Emily: it's complicated

Abby: come on, there must be a reason behind it!

Emily: I don’t know I mean, I'm just being the person everyone expects me to be but at the same time I don’t wanna lose the real me

Abby: why is it important to you? To be who they want you to

Emily: well cause I lived half of my life with them, and growing with people makes you become one of them, even if you don’t like it

Abby: Emily it's your life, it's not theirs! You can't just waste the best part of your life being something you're not! once you become fake, you're going to feel that the whole world around you is. In life, you either be who you want to be or be nothing at all.

I didn’t know what to say, I mean she is right!

Abby: I know it's hard for you to disappoint the people in your life, but the people who really care about you would want you to be yourself around them! Not a toy that they control her movements!

I said in a low voice : you're right

Abby: sweetie, I know it's hard for you. But you should know that the hardest thing to do is make decision, specially the once that's going to change your life. But life isn’t guaranteed for anyone, it's a gift! And you should spend every day of it doing what you want to, not what others want. Cause at the end it will all come back to you! You can only live once! So why waste it? Do something that will make you proud of before taking your last breath!

No one really ever said these words to me, she really moved something inside me!

Abby: it's already 10! I must go home

Emily: thank you Abby! You're a good friend!

Abby: it's my job darling!

I walked abby to her house and went to mine

When I walked in I saw mum and dad, I kissed both of them and went to my bed, I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking of what abby told me to do

I felt tired so I slept

It's Friday today, my mum came to wake me up from school. I went to the bathroom and took a quick worm shower, I wore my black short with the white top and a black belt, and a matching white heels.

I went down stairs

Emily: good morning

Mum: good morning sweetie

Emily: what's for breakfast today?

Mum: waffles!

Emily: my favorite! Mum where's dad?

Mum: he had to go to work early today

Emily: oh! Okay I must go now I'm late, love you!

School was normal, boring classes and mean teachers. Though there was something weird, Hannah didn’t seem good at all!

After the bell rang I went to Hanna's desk

Emily: Hannah!

Hannah: yea?

Emily: can I talk to you?

Hannah: what is it about?

Emily: come and we'll talk!

Hannah: okay!

We went outside

Emily: you don’t seem well, what's wrong?

She seemed a little nervous: no there's nothing, I mean what can it be? Hhh.. there's nothing

Okay that sounded weird!

I stopped and faced her: Hannah! You don’t even sound good, would you tell me?

Hannah: I can't! I'm sorry now I need to go!

And she left!

I went back home

Emily: hey!

Mum: hey sweetie

Emily: dad isn’t home yet?

Mum: no he said he had a late shift tonight, he came around 11 in the morning and left at 1!

Emily: oh, that's not good

Mum: yes, and I gotta go now I had work I didn’t finish yet but I had to come home to do stuff, I made you some food you can find it in the fridge!

Emily: no thanks I'm going out with Abby today

Mum kissed my check: okay sweetie have fun

Emily: bye!

I went upstairs and jumped in my bed, it was a long day. Or maybe my kind is just full of stuff, what Abby told me yesterday didn’t get off of my head! I kept remembering each word she said.

And in the end, I've decided to actually try!

I took a quick shower and wore some usual clothes " by that I mean not the fancy, over look! Just me! ;) "

My hair was naturally soft so I just made a ponytail

And since it's Friday today, I don’t have work at Mr. mark's company so I decided to go to Abby.

I went to the bookstore

Emily: knock knock knock

Abby: oh just come in!

I laughed and hugged her: I miss you!

Abby: me too :(

Emily: okay then come on we got a lot of work to do!

Abby: what?

Emily: tomorrow we're going to do a charity work to the orphans, it's something they do every Saturday, you know the company I told you I'm working at! So I signed your name with us so u can come! And know I wanna go buy them gifts and stuff they'll love!

I pulled her hand and walked her outside

Abby: okay okay take it easy! " she said that while laughing "

So we went to like every toy store in town, I bought a lot of toys and gifts! I just grabbed anything that my eyes falls in. it was the best day ever, it was the first time where I had A LOT of shopping in one day and actually feel good about it!

After we finished I told Abby I wanted to buy something special for mister mark!

Abby: something like what?

Emily: ugh I have no idea! I have a bad taste when it comes to men gifts!

We kept searching until it was 7! I didn’t find anything valuable yet!

Abby: I'm tired!

Emily: yea me too

Abby: let's go some place to eat, we'll search for a gift later

I was really disappointed: okay

We found a pizza place nearby, we went there and ate.

It was 10 when I arrived home

Emily: I'm home!

No answer!

I hate how I don’t really have time with my parents, they're always at work and I'm lucky if I saw them once a day!

I went straight to bed cause I was really tired and I have a long day tomorrow!
